  • With Pittsburgh’s many aging homes and buildings, ARS has been replacing more and more metal lintels. Metal lintels are the angle iron above doors and windows installed during contruction so brick can be laid above these openings.
  • As lintels age they rust, swell, and cause step cracks and damage to a home or building’s integrity and structure. ARS has removed thousands of these steel supports over the last 40 years and found that they are not properly coated before installation. ARS uses a special two component epoxy to insure the new lintels last as long as possible and do not have to be replaced again. Please note that many window installers mistakenly caulk the joint between the steel lintel and the brick trapping moisture. When this happens condensation occurs behind the brick and moisture can not escape properly . This mistake is the cause of much lintel damage.
